    FAQs

What is tallow, and why is it good for skincare?

Tallow is rendered beef fat with a rich fatty acid profile that closely resembles our skin’s natural oils. Packed with beneficial lipids like oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids, it helps support the skin’s barrier, locking in moisture and protecting against environmental stressors.

Its deeply moisturizing, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties make it ideal for eczema, acne, dryness, and scarring. Tallow balm works as a daily moisturizer, diaper balm, lip balm, scalp oil, belly butter, and so much more. When a product is high quality, it will be effective in many ways!

Used for centuries in skincare, tallow requires no stabilizers or preservatives. Kai Tallow traditionally renders it using low heat and specialized straining for a pure, fast-absorbing product.

Where does Kai Tallow source its ingredients?

We source our true beef suet from 100% grass-fed, organic, and pasture-raised cows from Midwest regenerative farms. Our ingredients are organic, whole-body safe, and free from hormones, antibiotics, or synthetic additives. Check out this blog on our quality standards.

What is the shelf life of tallow balm?

Our tallow balm lasts up to one year at room temperature. Because it contains no water, it remains naturally preserved without synthetic stabilizers.

Store in a cool, dark place. Our amber glass jars protect from UV light. While refrigeration isn’t necessary, it can extend shelf life.

Can I use Kai Tallow products on my face?

Yes! Our tallow balm is non-comedogenic and absorbs quickly without clogging pores, making it an excellent facial moisturizer.

Is tallow balm safe for babies and sensitive skin?

Absolutely! Our balms are gentle enough for babies and free from artificial fragrances, preservatives, and toxic additives.

Can I use tallow products if I have oily or acne-prone skin?

Yes! Tallow balances sebum production and contains antimicrobial properties that help reduce acne and inflammation.Sebum is the natural oil your skin produces to stay moisturized and protected. When there’s too much, it can lead to oily skin and breakouts; too little, and your skin can become dry and irritated.

Tallow closely matches the fats in human skin, helping to balance sebum production, moisturizing dry skin, and preventing excess oiliness.

The amount of tallow you use may vary depending on your skin type—those with drier skin may need a bit more than those with oilier skin.
